I’m getting a garbled error when launching

Your computer is likely running under a locale that isn’t Japanese. You have two ways of going about this:

• Setting your computer’s locale to Japanese
• Using a locale emulator

Setting your computer’s locale to Japanese

1. Open the Start menu and begin typing region.
2. Select the option “Region” with “Control Panel” beneath it.
3. Select the “Administrative” tab, then select “Change System Locale”.
4. Set it to “Japanese (Japan)”, click “OK” and when prompted, restart your computer.

Using a locale emulator

1. Download this latest release of xupefei/Locale-Emulator.
2. Extract the files to a separate folder, such as in your Documents folder.
3. Run LEInstaller.exe, and select whichever installation setting which suits you.
4. Open Task Manager by pressing the Ctrl+Shift+Escape keyboard combo.
5. Select explorer.exe or Windows Explorer, and click on Restart.
6. Navigate to your Waremete installation, and right click on 失われた未来を求めて.exe.
7. On Windows 11, you will need to click on Show more options.
8. Hover over Locale Emulator and select Run in Japanese.

I’m having video playback issues

First, try installing the K-Lite Codec Pack. You should only need the “Basic” version.

The game window appears but closes soon after

This is a tricky issue, as there appears to be no immediate fix that can remedy it.
It is likely an issue with somewhat old titles such as this one that already has issues trying to load on modern Windows (10/11) on its own.

If you are on Windows 11 24H2, please try downgrading to 23H2 or lower, or try running the game in a virtual machine. This is only a bandage fix.
